Mexican superstar Alejandro Fernandez has partnered with his label, Universal Music Group, to launch a management and booking company. The new enterprise, called Infinity, will be a joint endeavor between Fernandez’s Grupo Fernandez Corporation and Universal’s entertainment division, GTS.
Infinity will be run by Carlos de la Torre Jimenez, the current CEO of Grupo Fernández. Its first project will the upcoming Mexican tour of Spanish star David Bisbal, who is handled by GTS. Bisbal will tour Mexico in October.
“I’ve always been interested in supporting and investing in music,” said Fernandez in a statement. “Throughout the years, I’ve had a really good relationship with my label which is why I am sure that with Infinity we will strengthen and create various options and opportunities for the Mexican audience.”
Fernandez has long been managed by Grupo Fernandez, which also handles his famous father, Vicente Fernandez. The company oversees the extensive, lucrative bookings for father and son, and has secured multiple major deals over the years, including Fernandez’s massive Jalisco en Vivo shows in support of his home state.
“The great experience and success of the accomplishments Grupo Fernandez have achieved throughout the years gives us peace of mind in knowing that we are walking down the right path,” said Jesus Lopez, Chairman/CEO Universal Music Latin America/Iberian Penninsula, in a statement.
Although it wasn’t immediately clear how GTS and Infinity will work together or divide duties, both have had a close working relationship for the past several years.
Fernandez is one of Latin music’s biggest stars and certainly one of Universal’s biggest artists. He is also one of the very few acts who regularly releases albums both for the pop and regional Mexican markets.
