SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico.
Local Police say salsa legend Cheo Feliciano has died in a car accident in the northern suburb of Cupey, Puerto Rico.
At around 4:15 a.m. on Thursday morning, Feliciano was driving his green Jaguar alone when he lost control as he rounded a curve and crashed in to an electrical post, According to a Police official quoted by El Nuevo Dia Feliciano had recently been treated for pneumonia and cancer.
The legendary Cheo Feliciano was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1936. By the age of 17 migrated to New York City and began to embed himself among Artist like Tito Puente. Feliciano Performed with Joe Cuba Sextet, Fania All-Stars as well as building his Solo Career. Through out his career, Feliciano recorded a series of hits including “Anacaona”, “Pa’ Que Afinquen”, “ Cachondea”, “El Raton”, “Mi Triste Problema” and many more.
But in his journey to success, Feliciano struggled with drugs developing an addiction to Heroin during his time in New York.
Feliciano then returned to his birth Island of Puerto Rico to seek rehabilitation, and then later became a prominent Anti-Drug spokesman.
Feliciano leaves behind his wife, Coco Feliciano and their four sons.
