Incorporating all the Latin flavors of Reggaeton, Vallanato and Dembow with a touch of Trap, there is no doubt that Dominic RD has been lighting up the airwaves lately with his intoxicating blend of riddims, rap and melody. Born in Salcedo in the Dominican Republic, he is infused with the culture of the Caribbean and has brought all of that collective knowledge with him to his new home of Tampa Florida.
At the age of 13, his passion for music arose when he saw Daddy Yankee in concert at the Olympic Stadium in the Dominican Republic. An artist who first coined the word Reggaeton in 1994 to describe the new music genre that was emerging from Puerto Rico, Dominic RD also synthesizes American hip-hop, Latin Caribbean music, and Jamaican reggae rhythms with Spanish rapping and singing.
Determined to follow in the steps of his idol and releasing music since 2017, he really made his mark in 2021 with his debut album Vive La Vida. It is a collection of 15 scintillating tracks that also saw him work alongside artists such as El Leon, El Gongri, Los Padrino, Melvin Flow Desafinao, Samuel MC, Toreto El Animal and Black Sammy. The success of the album has led to people researching his back catalogue and discovering music that may have passed them by.
One such track is Trankilo (Remix), a collaboration with El Cherry Scom and Paramba, where the trio deliver a stunning performance that is beginning to gain traction once again. Full of Latin bounce and addictive grooves, the song is another celebration of the Dembow genre that originated in Jamaica in the hands of the legendary Shabba Ranks.
Going viral on TikTok and now becoming a firm favorite with national and global audiences, Dominic RD is proving to the world that he can take the reins of the musical form he loves to a whole new generation of fans.
