Jairo Varela the director of Grupo Niche Salsa music, died today at his home in the city of Cali. Varela who was 62, author of famous pieces as “Cali Pachanguero” and “Raindrops”, among dozens, died after slipping in the bathroom, “apparently after suffering a heart attack and hit his head,”. Experts recalled today that Varela was “one of the transformers of music” dance popular in the country and who “internationalized” the Colombian salsa. Grupo Niche was established in 1978, several years after Jairo Varela will Quibdo, the capital of Chocó, where he was born in 1949 and moved to Bogota and then to Cali, the city he loved and where he lived most of his life. Jairo Varela, along with “My Valle del Cauca”, was the author of hits like “Ana Mile”, “Buenaventura and Caney”, “The magic of your kisses” and “Cali Aji”.
