JUANES MTV UNPLUGGED Helps Embrace Fine Latin Music

Juanes

Juanes

This week, Latin music superstar Juanes is releasing his anticipated album JUANES MTV Unplugged. After listening to this work, I can tell you that Juanes exceeded all the expectations that have surrounded this work from the very beginning. This is an album that is set to divide the music career of Juanes in two. Very likely, the more mature sound that defines this production will also shape the future projects of the Colombian superstar.

JUANES MTV Unplugged is a 14-track CD that also includes a DVD of the concert. Throughout the whole album you can listen to fantastic musical arrangements that provide this production with a very innovative and experimental sound. Although the album is mainly a compilation of some of the most popular songs ever produced by Juanes, this work includes outstanding new songs such as “Azul Sabina” and “La Señal” that give us a good hint of the musical path that Juanes is about to embrace.

Besides “La Señal,” the single that provides this album with its own meaning, I have to say I was totally blown away by the amazing New Orleans style blues “Azul Sabina” featuring the legendary Spanish singer and songwriter Joaquin Sabina. These two songs capture better than any other the light that Juanes is following with his music career.

Such a light, however, is also evident in the sober and more mature tone that the Latin Pop singer incorporated into popular tracks such as “Es Por Ti” and “Hoy Me Voy,” which clearly depart from the original versions. Tracks like “A Dios Le Pido,” “Fijate Bien” and “La Camisa Negra” maintain the original sound with fantastic arrangements provided by the talented musicians on stage and the hand of the album’s musical director and producer Juan Luis Guerra.

Another remarkable thing about this work is its ability to set Juanes apart from the regular mainstream crowd. As one of the best-selling Latin music artists in the world, Juanes is definitely a mainstream artist. However, his enormous popularity has not been guided by his desire to be commercially successful but rather by the way he conceives his own music. JUANES MTV Unplugged reinforces this approach in a significant way.

The bottom line is that Juanes has delivered an outstanding album. Tonight at 9:00 PM (ET), you can watch the broadcast premiere of JUANES MTV Unplugged on Tr3s: MTV, Música y Más. The album, which includes a CD and a DVD of the recording, will hit the global market tomorrow. This is already one of the best Latin music albums of 2012.
