It was a special night for at least two Latins nominated for the 85th Academy AwardOscars televised live tonight from Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Calif.
Of the five categories that Latins were nominated in Claudio Miranda took the Oscar trophy for his movie “Life of Pi” in the Cinematography category. It’s the second Oscar for Mr. Miranda of Santiago, Chile with his first win in 2009 for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”.
The second honors was for the Latin film “Inocente” of Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine in the Documentary Short category. “Inocente” entails a 15 year old homeless and undocumented girl whose name is Inocente (Innocent). She uses her beautiful work of art to forget her daily difficult life. It is a movie which speaks of millions of youth in the United States living similar situations. The film’s intention is to span national awareness of youth in the streets that have much more to offer and have dreams to fulfill.
Other Latin representation at the Oscars were Mario Lopez, Claudio Miranda, Gael Garcia Bernal, Paco Delgado, Antonia Zegers, Pablo Larraín Matte, Salma Hayek and Zoe Saldana (Saldaña). The latter also presented awards.
