Sony/ATV has announced worldwide publishing deals with pop-bachata singer Leslie Grace and with Rene Perez, better known as Residente, the frontman of Calle 13.
Grace became the youngest woman to top Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart with her bachata cover of “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow,” released when she was 17 years old. Her 2013 self-titled second album reached No. 4 on the Latin Albums chart and No. 3 on the Tropical Albums chart. The album was also nominated for a Latin Grammy for best contemporary tropical album.
“As a young singer and songwriter, becoming part of the Sony/ATV family among so many incredibly brilliant writers is a huge step for me,” Grace said in an announcement from SONY/ATV.
“Leslie represents the future of our Latin generation,” added Jorge Mejia, the company’s Executive Vice President, Latin America & US Latin. “She speaks perfect Spanish, perfect English and her music bridges all gaps between the two languages, singing beautifully in both.”
Grace is signed to the Sony Music Latin label and is working on songs for her next album.
Rene Perez is recording his first solo record, to be released in 2016. His agreement with Sony/ATV covers “all of [his] songwriting output” globally. Calle 13, Perez’s duo with his stepbrother Eduardo Cabra, won a record 22 Latin Grammys. Perez and Cabra announced earlier this year that they were each moving on to pursue solo projects.
“We at Sony/ATV couldn’t be more excited to be a part of Rene’s musical future,” said Mejia. “Rene is one of the most forward thinking and respected artists in music today. Accordingly, we can’t wait to see where his musical journey takes us next.”
