The Puerto Rican singer Farruko will be recognized with the special award for “urban excellence” at the Premio Lo Nuestro gala, which will be held next Thursday in Miami, the Univision network reported Monday.
The urban artist will be honored for his “contributions to the genre, constant evolution and leadership in incorporating new styles into his music,” said the television network, organizer of these awards.
This announcement comes after the singer changed the tone of his music and his concerts for a more Christian attitude, which has generated controversy among some of his followers, but has also raised the support of many of his companions..
Even at a recent concert in Miami last week he refused to sing the chorus of his latest hit, “Pepas“, because of his references to drugs, something that the artist justified on Instagram by saying that the “content” of the shows is decided by him and that artists are “free to express themselves on stage however they want”.
And he assured that he will fulfill his “contractual commitments” with his label, but that he will bet on “music that carries another message.”
In Premio Lo Nuestro, the singer will perform together with Pedro Capó and Oneill to perform a potpourri of songs, which will include “Ki“, ”El incomprendido“, “Gracias” and “Pepas“, although it will be necessary to see if he interprets the chorus.
Farruko will be one of the artists to receive these special awards, like the one announced last week for Colombian singer Maluma, who will receive the “global idol” award.
It will be a night in which the recently deceased Mexican singer Vicente Fernández will also be honored and remembered by Ángela Aguilar, Christian Nodal, Grupo Firme, Camilo and David Bisbal.
The gala presented by Alejandra Espinoza, David Bisbal, Gabriel Soto and Yuri will also feature performances by Anitta, CNCO, Gente de Zona, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Luis Fonsi, Maluma, Manuel Turizo, Natti Natasha, Pepe Aguilar, Pitbull, Prince Royce, Romeo Santos, Sebastián Yatra, Sofía Reyes and Sting, among others.
It was also announced this Monday that the reggaeton duo Wisin and Yandel will premiere their song “No se Olvidas” on television.
But there will be more popular celebrities on this night of Latin music and among those who will present the awards will be Angélica Vale, Chesca, Justin Quiles, Lele Pons, Raymix, Willy William and Yotuel.
The thirty-fourth edition of these awards, which are awarded by popular vote, has Camilo, J Balvin and Christian Nodal as top favorites, with 10 nominations each.
Behind the three great favorites appear Bad Bunny and Karol G, with 9 nominations each, while Caliber 50, Carlos Rivera, Farruko, Jhay Cortez, Maluma, Myke Towers and Rauw Alejandro appear in 8 categories.
