Global pop sensation MIKA returns today with a new single titled “YO YO”. The artist noted that, “I wanted to write a song that could make you cry and dance at the same time.”
“A song to make the world, in all its harshness, feel better. Something that will always be there to comfort you. I wrote this for you, while you listen in your room or in a club: it doesn’t matter, it’s just about you.”
MIKA will co-host the Eurovision Song Contest, during the May 14 broadcast, where he will deliver what promises to be an unforgettable performance of his hits and his first performance of the new single “YO YO”.
On the other hand, MIKA recently wrapped up a sold-out North American tour, culminating in two big performances at Coachella.
MIKA was named the number one breakout artist of 2007 in the BBC’s annual poll of music critics, Sound of 2007. The singer released his first full-length studio album, Life in Cartoon Motion, the same year. It sold over 5.6 million copies worldwide and helped Mika win a Brit Award for Breakthrough Artist. Plus a Grammy Award nomination.
MIKA, known for his vibrant melodies, for his several octaves, as well as his classically trained voice, uses music to bring a community together, especially to connect with those who feel like outsiders; out of place, alienated a bit from society as he felt at some point.
His work is inspired by personal experiences when he was an adult and a child, when music was his only source of hope in a childhood surrounded by loneliness.
Last year, MIKA’s viral Grace Kelly challenge, which has nearly 40 million views on TikTok, perfectly reflects her magical ability to create a space for people to share their truth, using the power of music to evoke empathy.
