Oscar d’León celebrates 50 years of musical career at the Cook Music Fest


Puerto de la Cruz will host on July 23, within the program of the Cook Music Fest, the concert of one of the greatest legends of Salsa and Caribbean music, Oscar d’León.

The Cook Muisc Fest, in its most ambitious edition, is confirmed as the epicenter of music in the Canary Islands from July 8 to 24 in Puerto de la Cruz. A poster full of top-level national and international stars where one of the most anticipated concerts by the public will be on July 23 with Oscar d’León.

The Venezuelan singer, better known as the Sonero del Mundo, is one of the most recognized names in the world of Latin music, being considered, today, the greatest exponent of the Caribbean genre and other musical rhythms, where he has proven to be a global artist, and that have made him a legend.

He began his career at the age of 28, although it was not until 1972 when D’León created the Diminción Latina and recorded his first album, obtaining a recognized success with the song Pensando en ti. In 1977 he began his career as a soloist with well-known hits such as Mi bajo y yo, El baile del suavecito, Bravo de Verdad, Llorarás, La Vela, Divina Niña, Taboga, Juancito Trucupey, El frutero, and Parampampam  are part of his most popular songs, which today have become icons of Latin music.

His powerful career and his very popular style have led him to successfully record, in addition to salsa, boleros, ballads, jazz, bonuses, bagpipes, bambucos, rancheras, son, afro and songs in English within the so-called “Big Band Classics”, musical genre where we find figures like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, among many others. This has led him to get on the most important stages in the world, from Madison Square Garden in New York or the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, as well as the most important stages on five continents.

Oscar d’León has been recognized in these 50 years of professional career with many awards and recognitions around the world, including an American Grammy, three Latin Grammys and a Latin Grammy for Musical Excellence. He has also been present at the best Latin festivals, including the International Festival of Viña del Mar, Chile, where he closed the festival obtaining the Silver and Gold Gaviota award for his musical quality and public preference.

Oscar d’León does not stop and continues to take his music, his flavor and his energy around the world, making a stop on July 23 in Puerto de La Cruz with a concert as part of the Cook Music Fest 2022 festival programme. That same day stars such as Gilberto Santa Rosa and Laritza Bacallao will also share the stage with El Sonero del Mundo, accompanied by three Canary Orchestras: Tropin Latin Music, Maquinaria Band and La Sabrosa. A ten-hour day of Salsa music in a unique concert that will mark a milestone on the island.

Within the concert program of the Cook Music Fest there is also that of Luis Fonsi, one of the most important artists on the current international scene, who will perform on July 9 in a concert where he will delight the public with such iconic songs as Despacito or his new album Law of Gravity. Other of the most anticipated performances will be the flamenco pop of India Martínez, on July 20; as well as Lola Índigo, on the 21st of the same month, who will perform for the first time in Tenerife. One of the most established bands on the national scene, La Oreja de van Gogh, will also take to the festival stage on July 22.

The Cook Music Fest also has room for Canarian bands and artists of the stature of Última Llave, Los Screensavers, Ni 1 pelo de idiot, Miss Band, Voces en la Distancia, Los Zigarros, Ledes Díaz, Lionel Hernández, Della Du, Simón Salinas and Tabaiba.

This musical commitment is also accompanied by the best humor of the islands that is going very strong on all stages and that every day attracts more audiences attracted by the talent and staging of artists and comedians such as Kike Pérez, Saúl Romero, Omayra Cazorla and Petite Lorena. For the little ones in the house, different shows have also been developed with the performances of Pica Pica and Fantasia Show.

All this seasoned with the best gastronomy within the Festival’s Gastronomic Zone, where you will find a space that will delight the most demanding palates.
