From Miami, Puerto Rican singer Ozuna highlighted the current success of urban music in Spanish, a triumph to which he has contributed and wants to continue contributing with the release of his new album, “Ozutochi”, an innovative work that will be released in October.
“It is important to represent ourselves without having to change our vision. What we are now enjoying of not having to switch to another language for people to connect is very important, ”he said in an interview with Efe Juan Carlos Ozuna Rosado, Ozuna, 30, a world reference in urban music.
“We, as Latinos, are an example that coming from nothing we can fulfill our dreams,” said the singer, finalist in two categories of the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards, which are delivered today, Thursday at a gala in Miami .
“Like us, every kid today dreams of being an artist and that way maybe the idea of being on the street will be taken away,” he said about the contribution to society of artists like the one from popular neighborhoods in Puerto Rico.
Ozuna is visiting the US city of Miami these days to participate in Billboard’s Latin Music Week, which has been held since last Monday, and in the award ceremony.
The events of this annual event held at the Faena Forum in Miami Beach have been conditioned by the passage through the region of Hurricane Ian, which yesterday Wednesday made landfall on the west coast of Florida.
“The new album mixes jazz, techno, bachata and mambo with what is reggaeton, that is, different fusions,” said the Puerto Rican about “Ozutochi”, who a few years ago “Time” magazine included in its list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
“We have done endless things that have transcended the world and that is what makes us stand out,” said the artist, who with his debut album, “Odyssey” (2017), reached the first position of the list Top Latin Albums.
Ozuna, who had planned a performance that was canceled due to the passage of Hurricane Ian, did not want to advance details of the new album and limited himself to saying that it includes 18 songs, a work in which he collaborates with other music figures, both consecrated and newcomers making their way right now.
“Always pointing to what is the new generation, but also giving importance to the current public and paying attention to different sounds. In this production I also liked to include new elements”, he said about his latest work that will see the light after several delays.
