Salsa and Merengue Dominate Billboard Latin Music Charts

Besides Bachata, only a few hits from Tropical genres such as Salsa and Merengue have been able to reach the number one spot of the Billboard Latin music charts. Thanks to the recent works of Juan Luis Guerra and Marc Anthony, that trend has recently changed. In fact, this week the Dominican singer, songwriter and producer has consolidated his album Asondeguerra Tour as the number one production on the Top Latin Albums and Tropical Albums charts.

Similarly, Marc Anthony’s single “Vivir Mi Vida,” one of the top Latin songs of 2013, is everywhere on the Billboard rankings including a number one spot in the following charts: Hot Latin Songs, Latin Airplay and Tropical Songs. This catchy Salsa track is also on the top five of the Latin Digital Songs (#2) and Latin Pop Songs (#3) charts.

Looking at the charts, it may seem a bit exaggerated to stay that Salsa and Merengue dominate the Billboard Latin music rankings. However, if one considers the ongoing popularity that Latin Urban music, Bachata, Latin Pop and Regional Mexican music enjoy in these charts, it is quite significant to see Salsa and Merengue music on the #1 spot of most of these lists. Marc Anthony and Juan Luis Guerra have definitely boosted these exciting Tropical genres.
