The Innovative Format will Feature an Exclusive Panel of 100 Social Media Influencers who will Determine which Contestants will Face the Celebrity Judges
MIAMI – August 26, 2014 – Telemundo announced that the much anticipated mega-reality show “Yo Soy El Artista” (I Am the Artist), will premiere on Sunday, September 14th at 8pm/7c. Hosted by international star Lucero, the reality show will air simultaneously in the U.S. on Telemundo and throughout Latin America on the cable networks E! and Telemundo Internacional. A select panel of celebrity judges, including Luis Fonsi, Olga Tañon, Mario Quintero Lara, Stephanie Himonidis ‘La Chiquibaby’ and Boris Izaguirre, along with 100 international social media influencers, will vote on contestants from around the country, who will have to sing, dance and demonstrate star quality and showmanship, in an intense 13-week competition, where the winner will be named the ultimate true “Artist.”
International Latin music idol Juan Luis Guerra, winner of top industry awards, will be the special guest star during premiere night, bringing his music and unique flair to the stage of this innovative competition.
From the more than 4,000 people that participated in auditions in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Orlando and Puerto Rico, only 120 contestants were preselected to travel to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida to take part in the competition, which will include three phases: Auditions, Selection and Galas.
During the Auditions, 120 participants will need to convince a panel of 100 influencers to vote for them to be allowed to face the judges and the show’s host. The panel of digital influencers from Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Vine and Instagram, include social media celebrities like the “Werevertumorro” team, the #1 video blog in Mexico; Miranda Ibáñez, known as “the DIY Princess” for her unique style and passion for music and technology; Mariana Castrejón, Mexico’s “Beauty and Fashion Princess”; comedian blogger Patricia Caeli Olalla; Alex Montiel, know as the “Golden Scorpion,” whose YouTube videos are among the 10 most influential in Latin America; and many others.
During the influencers stay in Orlando, Telemundo, in collaboration with Latin World Entertainment (LatinWE), will hold the first “#YoSoyelInfluencer Summit,” convening social media leaders, TV personalities and media experts from around the world to participate in two days of panels and sessions focused on new digital media trends and the rise of new talent in the world of digital media, as well as the evolution of original content in social platforms.
In the Selection phase, the contestants chosen in the Auditions will compete to win admission to the “Escuela de Artistas” (Artist’s School), led by world-famous singer, Olga Tañon, including Luis Fonsi as vocal adviser, telenovela star Laura Flores as acting expert, and the internationally renowned choreographer Javier Castillo, “Poty,” as dancing instructor. In the School, 14 candidates will be selected to the final phase of the competition, the Galas, where each Sunday, they will perform in front of the judges, a live audience and TV viewers, who will ultimately decide who will be chosen as the “Yo Soy el Artista” winner.
Telemundo and Reset TV have partnered in the ownership, development, production and international distribution of “Yo Soy el Artista,” whose format is based on an original concept by the founders of Reset TV, Toni Cruz and Josep María Mainat, the creators of such successful entertainment formats as “Crónicas Marcianas,” “Mira Quién Baila” and “Operación Triunfo.”
