When reggaeton was just in its infancy, one of the greatest exponents and leaders in charge of making this new musical genre known to the entire world was Tego Calderón. The Puerto Rican legend was at the top for years and was one of the forerunners of this entire Latin American movement.
However, little by little his name moved away from the radio and was left behind by the new figures of the genre. However, his fame will never be forgotten and all the artists recognize him, as mentioned by the Resident himself in his ‘tiradera’ that took J Balvin around the world.
The Puerto Rican singer’s last solo album titled “El que saber, él saber” came out in 2015 and in subsequent years he only released a few singles. What he did not stop at was to continue performing in different countries, because his songs are a success and people continue to chant them as hymns.
Tego Calderón gradually moved away from the microphones and began to venture into another facet, that of producer. It is in this role that he has helped several young reggaeton artists; Likewise, he collaborated in different aspects with other singers of the medium. An example of this is his role in Rosalía’s most recent album.
The popular ‘Abayarde‘ surprised this 2022 by collaborating with Cosculluela on the song “Chambean“. However, this would have been sporadic and it is not known if he will officially return as a singer. For now, his hits “Pa’ que retozen“, “Masucamba”, “El Abayarde”, “Metele sazón” and others will continue to play everywhere.
