Chile earthquake 2010: 300 confirmed dead as small tsunami hits Hawaii‏

Chile earthquake

Chile definitely seems a country unnerved. People are fearful of returning to high-rise buildings as aftershocks continue to hit the shocked people. Hundreds of thousands of people spent the last night in the open following the heavy aftershocks that made buildings look like dancing. They are still terrified and so there is still fear of moving in homes. Many Chilean say that they would like to spend their nights in park, on roads or inside their cars, despite the fact that much of Chile including Chilean capital was spared of any major devastation. So far estimates of death have reached around four hundred people, by the nation that has not a full government in place as it is in transitory period and a new president and ministers are set to take office in the next fortnight, the rehabilitation work and assessment of damage is going to be extra difficult. Experts initially believed that the powerful 8.8 earthquake will trigger massive tsunami in different parts of the world and more particularly in Pacific shoreline stretching from Chile to California and Hawaii. But luckily tsunami fears proved unfounded and barring some small tsunami waves, no powerful tsunami was observed anywhere.

It is notwithstanding the fact that hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated in Hawaii and even in Japan besides in many places in Chile. At least 300 people have been confirmed dead after a devastating earthquake struck Chile and triggered tsunami warnings across the Pacific Ocean. Many believe that the earthquake was less destructive than experts believed may be more to do because it was very deep and some hundred kilometers from the major centre of population.
