Gustavo López has been promoted to EVP and GM of Universal Music Latin Entertainment (UMLE), effective immediately. López, who has spent 18 years at Universal Music Group in multiple capacities, was most recently EVP of UMLE’s brand partnerships and digital division. The department was created with the specific purpose of diversifying revenue for Universal and implementing digital and brand-oriented initiatives in both the U.S. and Mexico.
Now, López will continue to develop UMLE’s brands division and focus on generating new revenue streams. He will also oversee physical, digital, licensing and artist management areas.
López will continue to be based in Los Angeles, reporting jointly to Jesús López, Chairman & CEO Universal Music Latin America and Iberian Peninsula and Víctor Gonzalez, President UMLE.
Prior to his UMLE posts, López launched Universal’s Latin urban label, Machete Music, and also headed the company’s regional Mexican labels: Fonovisa and Disa.
