Luis Fonsi Preps New Album for Early 2014

Puerto Rican pop star Luis Fonsi is putting the finishing touches on his new studio album, set to release in early 2014 on Universal Music Latino. But after working for a lifetime with producers on this side of the hemisphere, this time Fonsi spent months in London working Martin Terefe.

The London-based Swedish producer has worked with the likes of James Blunt, Jason Mraz and Eric Hutchinson, but he’s also produced a handful of acclaimed Spanish-language albums for Mexican duo Jesse & Joy and Spanish star Miguel Bosé.

“I heard about him through songwriting and also because I’m a fan of Train,” says Fonsi (Terefe produced several Train tracks, including “Hey, Soul Sister”). “And then I found out the guy speaks Spanish perfectly. So making Spanish language songs wasn’t completely out of his field.”

Fonsi says his new set is not a major departure from his romantic and rock/pop sound, grounded in very melodic songs. But sound wise, he says, “It’s a little different. Everything sounds more alive and very cool.”

Fonsi collaborated in the album with several songwriters, but co-wrote the majority with his longtime collaborator Claudia Brant.
