The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) will honor Marc Anthony with its “Founders Award” during its 20th annual Latin Music Awards taking place March 20 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The awards ceremony will also honor songwriters and publishers of ASCAP’s most-performed songs in Latin Music of 2011, including Songwriter of the Year, Publisher of the Year, Independent Publisher of the Year and Latin Song of the Year. Awards will be presented in Pop, Tropical, Regional Mexican, Urban and Television categories.

The Founders Award is ASCAP’s highest honor and is given to “songwriters and composers who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators.” Past recipients of the award include Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks and Billy Joel, among others.

Anthony, who is in the midst of his new reality TV show, “Q’Viva! The Chosen”, which began airing on Univision and throughout Latin America Jan. 28 and will begin airing shortly on Fox, is also a film and theater actor (Man on Fire and Time of the Butterflies, among others) and, of course, one of Latin music’s biggest stars and a major force behind the Latin “crossover” explosion of 1999, with global sales of over 12 million albums.
