MIAMI – MAY 20, 2013 – The most competitive and challenging season of Univision’s top-rated reality competition “Nuestra Belleza Latina” (Our Latin Beauty) to date concluded last night in a glittering season finale jam-packed with glamour, excitement, emotion, music, and superstar guests. Over 9.4 million votes were cast during the finale – the second highest number of votes cast in the competition’s history – electing Marisela Demontecristo to reign as this year’s winner. In addition to winning $250,000 in cash and prizes, a contract with the Univision Network, and an all-new 2014 Forte EX compact sedan, “Nuestra Belleza Latina” 2013 will also be featured on the cover ofCosmopolitan en Español magazine. With an average audience of 3.3 million Viewers 2+, the finale of “Nuestra Belleza Latina” on Sunday, May 19 ranked among the Top 10 programs on all of broadcast television with both Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49, and additionally made Univision the No. 3 broadcast network among Adults 18-34, beating CBS and NBC, and the No. 4 broadcast network among Adults 18-49 during its two-hour broadcast. For the entire night, Univision finished as the No. 3 broadcast network with Adults 18-34.
The stunning Demontecristo, a native of El Salvador, triumphed over the four other talented Latinas who made it to the final round of the show. Viviana Ortiz from Puerto Rico won the scholarship to attend CEA, Televisa’s prestigious acting school in Mexico. During the two-hour episode leading up to the nail-biting announcement of the winner, the five finalists gave it their all in one final effort to win viewers’ preference, taking part in several challenges and lively musical numbers, as well as a glamorous fashion-show-inspired swimsuit competition that showed off their picture-perfect figures amidst a chorus of dancers.
“There are no words that can fully express the enormous gratitude I feel toward all the viewers who gave me their vote of confidence, it was truly an unbelievable surprise- I never expected to win” expressed a visibly emotional Demontecristo. “I could only dream of having an amazing opportunity like this, which will also give me the possibility of helping my family and especially my niece. I want to be an example for all Latin women – living proof that dreams can come true if you work hard and persevere. I am honored to be wearing the ‘Nuestra Belleza Latina’ crown.”
Two special challenges put the finalists’ acting skills to the test. Paired with five of today’s most popular telenovela leading men – Ernesto Laguardia, Pedro Moreno, Jorge Aravena, Salvador Zerboni, and Carlos de la Mota, the five young women displayed their talent for passion and romance by acting in a love scene. And film stars Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez added a hefty dose of Hollywood glitz to the telecast, joining host Giselle Blondet and former “Nuestra Belleza Latina” winners Vanessa De Roide and Ana Patricia Gonzalez to introduce a reenactment of an action-packed scene from Universal Pictures’ upcoming film “Fast & Furious 6,” with one of the finalists in a starring role.
Last night’s spectacular season finale also featured show-stopping performances by two Latin music stars: Colombian singer/songwriter Carlos Vives and regional Mexican music artist Larry Hernandez. Vives opened the show with a high-energy rendition of his hit “Como le Gusta a Tu Cuerpo,” sharing the stage with the seven previously eliminated “Nuestra Belleza Latina” contestants, paving the way for the grand entrance of the five finalists dressed in different costumes. Vives returned for a second lively music number near the end of the broadcast, while Larry Hernandez regaled viewers with his catchy corrido “Dame Tu Amor.”
In a poignant segment that stirred the emotions of the contestants, judges, and viewers alike, “Nuestra Belleza Latina” visited the five finalists’ homes, not only in the U.S., but also in their native Latin American countries, where family members showed the audience where the girls came from, how they lived, and just how far they’ve come in the pursuit of their dreams. Later, in a sensational closing piece, each finalist had the chance to convey what success means to her by appearing in a carefully staged photograph that brought to life her very own version of the “image of success.”
“For seven seasons now, ‘Nuestra Belleza Latina’ has maintained a solid place among Univision’s highest rated shows.
