Ricky Martin is a bit late to jumping on board the reggaeton trend. Yet, according to recent news, the singer is working on a new single not just with reggaeton duo Wison & Yandel but also with Jennifer Lopez.
To create the track, Martin is taking some time off from Broadway, and to fans, recently uploaded a picture of himself with the duo to his WHOSAY page with the following caption: “In the studio where you never know what’s going to happen. […] Working on a single that will paralyze music in Latin America.”
What’s your perspective on that statement? Martin previously collaborated with Wison & Yandel on single “Frio,” which was not received well by fans. Lopez, currently on the road with her Dance Again World Tour, has not yet entered the studio to record her vocals.
This isn’t Martin latest collaborative effort with another artist. In recent months, his single “The Best Thing About Me is You” featured Joss Stone. With these collaborations, do you think Martin is attempting to make a bid for the mainstream charts? The singer, while regularly recording over the past decade, hasn’t seen much mainstream success since his “Livin’ La Vida Loca” days in the late 1990s.
Martin hasn’t just been putting out new music and doing a stint on Broadway. This past year, he appeared with Nicki Minaj for MAC Cosmetics’ Viva Glam campaign. Additionally, Martin has been part of an advertising campaign to get Hispanics to vote for Obama and also hosted his own fundraising event for the President in May.
