Search Party Music, a team of music supervisors that pioneered the worlds of music placement, original music composition, and creative licensing and Nacional Records, a multifaceted Latino youth-focused entertainment company, have announced a new partnership, “El Search Party”, that will provide music support and services to agencies and brands serving the Latino markets both in the U.S. and abroad.
In 2010 there were 50.5 million Hispanics living in the United States, up from 35.3 million a decade ago, according to the 2010 census. The number is expected to grow by 167% by 2050, compared with a 42% growth rate for the nation’s total population.
Search Party has its headquarters in New York, while Nacional Records is based in Los Angeles. The two companies have partnered on several Latino-focused projects in the past, including a series of spots for Target that featured Nacional artists like The Pinker Tones and Pacha Massive.
Search Party founder Randall Poster, who has served as a music supervisor for all of director Wes Anderson’s films over his two decade-long career, and counts directors Martin Scorsese, Richard Linklater, Todd Phillips and Sam Mendes among his regular confederates, has taken Search Party to the forefront of the commercial and branded arenas, providing original music and creative licensing and supervision on TV commercial campaigns for Nike, Google, Target, Old Navy, Budweiser and American Express, among others. Poster looks to the partnership to create opportunities for both companies.
“Tomas Cookman and his Nacional Records team have provided insight and artistry to various campaigns we have been part of during the last ten years,” says Randall Poster. “As we are increasingly drawn into the Latin market by our broad-based clientele, we thought it was time to devote ourselves to the Latino market in a more focused way. This venture with Nacional will allow us to navigate and elevate the opportunities we both see in the growing sphere of Spanish speaking consumers. There has never been a more opportune time for agile and alert music companies to create and channel music and music-driven content”.
“We have had the privilege of working with Randall Poster and Search Party on several Latin-focused projects over the years, and look forward to expanding on the relationship to provide broader support to agencies and brands in the U.S. and abroad,” says Tomas Cookman, who operates Nacional Records and its sister publishing company Canciones Nacionales. “This year has already seen a significant Latin-gone-mainstream synch licensing trend for Nacional, and we look forward to taking things even further via El Search Party”.
Search Party Music Supervisor and Producer Meghan Currier will be the venture’s point person in tandem with Nacional’s VP of Business Affairs Josh Norek. Currier has worked closely with Poster on recent campaigns for Prada Candy L’eau, Tommy Hilfiger, and Tory Burch, as well as on the music for HBO’s BOARDWALK EMPIRE. Norek oversees Nacional Records and Canciones Nacionales’ “one stop shop” licensing operation, including recent high profile deals with ESPN, Taco Bell and MTV’s WASHINGTON HEIGHTS.
